Behind the Screens: Get to Know Harrison from First Line Support
What do you enjoy most about working at Orbits IT?
“Since my duties are so varied here in the Midlands office, I both talk to clients in person and over the phone. However, I think I like going out to see clients more, I find there is extra satisfaction in seeing the smile on clients faces when issues are solved face to face. That has to be my favourite thing about working with collaborating with my colleagues coming in as a close second.”
What’s something you’re proud of achieving within your time at Orbits?
“Just recently I actually passed my A+ Core 2 exam and I am extremely proud of myself. This exam was about cementing core IT skills, like Networking, OS’ and Software, so I can continue to progress in my journey at Orbits. Next up is my Core 1 exam, which I’m nearly ready for.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
“Outside of work I’m actually a very active person. I often go to the gym or am playing other sports like footy. I really enjoy going to watch the football with my brother and friends as I’m a huge Albion fan. Up the baggies!”
How has your role evolved since starting here?
“I first started out by doing an apprenticeship in the old Midlands office, then moving onto First Line Support a little over a year later. From there I began doing site visits with Alex and quickly moved onto going on solo site visits. From there my role has mostly been a mix of helpdesk support and going to client sites, fitting hardware and resolving issues that can’t be done remotely.”
What does a typical work day look like to you?
“No day is the same, one day I could be on the helpdesk all day supporting my colleagues, and another I could be on site fixing issues directly. It can be one extreme or anywhere in between or even a change at the drop of a hat. It can be hard to foresee physical kit failing at a client site, so in this instance, I could be called to site to rectify the issue to get them back up and running quickly, as that is the biggest priority.”
Comments from Harrisons manager, Dan Vaughan…
“Harrison is a key member to our first line support team, having joined Orbits around the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. Harrison has stood out in his role on the helpdesk and in his shown great strides in his bid to join the engineering department in full. He’s always on the ball and looking to get involved and help out where he can with our queries. It’s great to see how much Harrison has developed over the short period of time he has been with Orbits, he has a great relationship with our clients and is always friendly and approachable.”
Now for the Fun Stuff!
Work hard, play hard — we’ve seen Harrison in action on the support front, now let’s peek behind the screen and uncover some of the fun stuff!
If you weren’t working in IT, what would you be doing?
“Before looking into an apprenticeship back in 2021, I actually wanted to be a fireman or plumber. I like being hands on and helping people so they were top choices for me.”
Do you prefer light mode or dark mode?
“Absolutely Light Mode, I always have it set as that on all my devices”
If you were stuck on a desert island with one device – what is it, and how long before it breaks?
“A Nokia Brick! I don’t think that would ever break, and at least I’d be able to try and call someone for help.”
