Behind the Screens: Meet Brandon our IT & Delivery Apprentice
Say hello to Brandon, our IT and Delivery Apprentice, and take a look behind the screens at how he’s finding his feet in the role.
Just over a year in, Brandon’s already moved well beyond the early days of shadowing. He’s now organising his own workload, spending most of his time on site with clients, and getting stuck into everything from troubleshooting hardware issues to configuring kit and building devices. It’s a hands-on role that rarely looks the same two days in a row, which suits someone who enjoys figuring things out as he goes.
This behind-the-scenes glimpse covers what keeps him motivated, how his confidence has grown, and the kind of team culture that’s helped him get there. There’s also a bit of personality in the mix too, so you’ll get a feel for what he’s like when he’s not deep in problem-solving mode.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
“I most enjoy problem-solving; I like being able to provide right resolutions for our clients issues and queries and figure out where any configuration has gone wrong. It’s very satisfying to come to work for a completely different day as the one before; marking off any new possibilities whilst troubleshooting as I try to problem-solve.”
What’s something you’re proud of achieving within the team?
“I am very pleased with my overall progress. I started with knowing the bare minimum, and now I feel confident enough to have progressed through my day with limited support, if any, and it’s always good to know that if I do need help, the helpdesk is always there to lend a hand.”
How has your role evolved since starting here?
“My time here has progressed quickly from shadowing the team to organising my own jobs for a day and deciding outcomes myself. I’m happy with the way my my role has progressed as I’ve been given more responsibility and become more involved in other areas too.”
How would you describe the team culture?
“There is always a positive attitude within the team; everyone is willing to help each other or happy to jump on any task and take the opportunity to learn. It’s always helpful and nice to see that if I ever need assistance whilst on site, they’re only on the other end of the phone, ready to help if I needed it.”
What does a typical workday look like to you?
“Typically my day starts by checking my ticket stack, as this ensures I know the path ahead of me for the day. It could be anything from visiting client sides, building devices, configuring network equipment or even a combination of the three all in one day. Most of my days are typically spent working closely with clients at site, supporting their staff and resolving hardware issues.”
Comments from Brandon’s manager, Morgan…
“Brandon joined us as an apprentice on the operations team just over a year ago and has gone from strength to strength since day one. He has developed a solid technical foundation in a short space of time and isn’t afraid to get stuck into complex problems head on. One of the things that really stands out with Brandon is his confidence and capability when working onsite with clients, he represents the team brilliantly and always leaves a good impression. It’s been great to watch him grow and we’re excited to see where his skills take him as he continues to develop with us.”
Now for the Fun Stuff!
Work hard, play hard — we’ve seen Brandon in action, supporting our clients, now let’s peek behind the screen and uncover some of the fun stuff!
You’re stuck on a desert island with one device. What is it, and how long before it breaks?
“It has to be an air fryer, it’d be extremely useful and I give it at least 3 years until it breaks”
If you weren’t working in IT, what would you be doing?
“To be fair, I’d probably be taking really long naps and trying to pursue some form of gaming career.”
If IT support had a mascot, what would it look like?
“I imagine it would have resemblance to the Orbits logo, but with eyes, arms and legs; almost like Office 97 Clippy”
