Meet Alex, Orbits IT’s Desktop Support Technician

Whether it’s onsite or on the helpdesk Alex is happy to pick up any ticket he gets tasked with. He’s always eager to get on urgent issues as soon as possible and will make sure to take advantage of all resources available, whether it’s checking previously resolved tickets, doing some research of his own or checking with the team, Alex will get it done.

To get to know Alex more he was asked some questions:

What is the most common issue that you receive?

With both going out onsite and working on the helpdesk, I do see a wider variety of issues first hand. On the helpdesk, the most common issue that I see is most likely password resets. I am always happy to get these sorted any time as they are quick and simple to resolve. However, onsite, the most common issue is probably a machine losing connection to the internet. This can’t be solved remotely most of the time, so in many cases, we have to go out onsite solve this.

What is your process of problem solving?

Whether I am onsite or working on the helpdesk, the basic steps of troubleshooting are very similar. The very first thing to do is getting all the details to be able to solve the problem efficiently. When all the details are gathered, I will jump on fixing the issue right away. Sometimes previous tickets that are related can hold the key to fixing new issues.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy most parts of what I do here at Orbits. I do lots of different things each day, ranging from communicating with clients, to doing research into larger projects. Day to day it can sometimes be a little unpredictable with what I will be working on, but that means it’s never boring!

How long have you been working at Orbits IT and how has it changed over time?

I have now been working here at Orbits IT for just over 2 years. I first began as an apprentice at the beginning of 2019 and learnt most of what I know today on the job. This meant for lots of small changes within the first year, due to being able to help with and complete, new and different tickets as time went on.

Orbits Director, Jim Lewington, says this about Alex…

Alex joined us an apprentice and the first member of the Orbits IT (Midlands) team back in 2019. Since completing his apprenticeship Alex has continued to develop his skills and knowledge which has seen him become an integral member of the team. Alex is very often out on client site installing new hardware, fixing problems and building a great relationship with our clients. It’s been a pleasure to watch Alex develop and I look forward to seeing how far he can go with Orbits IT.
