Over £1,500 Raised Through Our Charity Darts Marathon

On 7th August, the darts board took centre stage once again as the Orbits IT team came together for our second annual Charity Darts Marathon, this year raising money for Brain Tumour Research. After Team Wales claimed victory in last year’s event, Team Midlands arrived determined to settle the score. The challenge was simple: the first team to reach 100,000 points would take the title. What followed was just over seven hours of darts, plenty of laughs, some surprisingly brutal forfeits, and a fantastic fundraising effort that has raised over £1,500!

Our livestream returned for a second year, giving supporters the chance to follow every throw, big score and dramatic moment throughout the day. This year also introduced our brand-new prize and forfeit wheel, which quickly became one of the highlights of the marathon. Some lucky participants walked away with fantastic prizes, including two Pandora’s Box mystery bundles packed with desk essentials such as a wireless mouse, sweets and retro desktop games. Another prize that caused plenty of excitement was a box of miniature ducks that happened to contain a hidden Amazon gift card.

The forfeits proved just as memorable.

Ryan took on the infamous “Desert Mouth” challenge, which sounds harmless until you’re faced with five dry crackers and no easy way to swallow them. Ten minutes later, he was still battling his way through the final crumbs, proving the name was more than accurate.

Then there was “Uno Reverse”, where competitors had to do the exact opposite of what they’ve spent years practising and aim for the worst score possible. While Alex briefly wandered off and enjoyed his moment in the spotlight elsewhere, Elise stepped up and delivered a masterclass in terrible darts, finishing around 300 points lower than Alex and taking the win.

There were some incredible performances throughout the marathon.

James “Dunn Deal” once again showed why he’s becoming something of a darts marathon legend. After producing one of the biggest scoring rounds of last year’s event, he somehow topped it with another mammoth effort, scoring over 8,000 points in a single round.

What’s even more impressive is that last year’s rounds lasted 30 minutes. This year? Just 20.

Meanwhile, “Speedy” Pete got stronger with every appearance. After opening with a score below 4,000 points, he steadily found his rhythm before producing a superb round of more than 5,700 points, the highest score recorded by anyone on Team Midlands throughout the day. Then there was Alex “The Apex Alex”. Not content with causing chaos during Uno Reverse, Alex also produced the highest three-dart score of the entire marathon, hitting a brilliant 170. For anyone familiar with darts, you’ll know that’s no ordinary score.

Despite Team Midlands pushing Wales all the way, the reigning champions once again found a way to get over the line first. After just over seven hours of competition, Team Wales reached the 100,000-point target with Aaron stepping up to throw the winning darts. Midlands finished only 5,000 points behind after an incredible contest that remained competitive right to the end. Back-to-back champions. Wales retain the crown.

While there could only be one winner on the scoreboard, the real success of the day was the money raised for Brain Tumour Research.
