Behind the Screens: Get to Know Kalvinder a Junior IT Support Technician
Say hello to Kalvinder (Aka Kal), one of our Junior IT Support Technicians at Orbits. While Kal has only been at Orbits for 10 months, he’s already making an excellent impression on our clients with the Goldstars flooding in recently. Kal juggles both apprenticeship work and helpdesk tickets, but in between all of that, he never fails to make our clients happy. Get to know him throughout his time here so far, here…
What do you enjoy most about your work?
“What I enjoy most about work is the buzz in the office. There’s such a positive, upbeat atmosphere that it’s hard not to feel energised the moment I walk in. No two days ever feel the same, since joining last June, I’ve honestly felt like I’ve gained a little work family. Everyone looks out for each other, has a laugh, and makes even the busiest days feel lighter.”
What is something your proud of achieving here at Orbits?
“I’m just about halfway through my apprenticeship now, and I’m really putting the work in to make sure I’m on track for the qualification at the end of it. A big chunk of it involves documenting what I do on the helpdesk, plus the set tasks like device disposals, so I keep everything updated as I go. I’m genuinely proud of how I’ve managed to maintain a balance between the helpdesk and my apprenticeship work, because it can be a lot at times, but it feels like I’ve found a good rhythm with it.”
How has your role evolved since starting here?
“Before starting my apprenticeship with Orbits, I knew pretty much nothing about IT. I was basically coming in with a blank canvas and a lot to learn. Since joining, though, I’ve been able to build up my skills and confidence bit by bit. The team have been brilliant, and my college mentor has played a big part too.”
How would you describe the team culture?
“The team culture here is honestly unlike anything I’ve experienced before. From day one I’ve been made to feel properly valued, not just another employee. The whole place has such a positive feel to it, and that atmosphere takes so much pressure off because I know I can always speak to someone if I’m struggling or need a bit of support.”
Now for the Fun Stuff!
Work hard, play hard — we’ve seen Kal in action, supporting our clients, now let’s peek behind the screen and uncover some of the fun stuff!
If your job had a theme song, what would it be?
“Adventure of a Lifetime’ by Coldplay, because it feels wholesome and it sums up how I feel about being on this whole adventure with Orbits.”
Light mode or dark mode?
“I’d pick dark mode; there is much less strain on my eyes.”
If you weren’t working at Orbits, what would you be doing?
“If I didn’t work at Orbits, I’d probably end up doing something sports related.”
