Behind the Screens: Get to Know Elise a Helpdesk Co-ordinator
Say hello to Elise! Having joined just under a year ago, Elise has already made a real impact within the team. Starting with no prior IT knowledge going into her Junior IT Support Technician Role, to developing her skills and taking on new responsibilities. In fact, within her first 6 months, she was offered an additional role as Helpdesk Co-ordinator, a reflection of the trust and confidence the team have in her.
To learn more about Elise and her work day to day we asked her a few questions…
What do you enjoy most about working at Orbits IT?
I enjoy advancing my IT knowledge and skills every day. There’s always something new to learn in the industry, which keeps things interesting.
I also really enjoy helping our clients resolve their issues. It’s rewarding knowing that you’ve been able to make someone’s day a little easier by solving a problem and getting them back up and running.
What’s something you’re proud of achieving within the team?
One of the things I’m most proud of is being offered an additional role within my first six months at Orbits IT. Being trusted with higher responsibilities so early on was a huge confidence boost and showed me that the hard work I’d been putting in was being recognised. It’s been a great opportunity to continue growing both professionally and personally.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to spend time with family and friends. Whether that’s catching up over a meal, going out, or simply relaxing together, it’s always good to switch off and make the most of my free time with the people closest to me.
How has your role evolved since starting here?
When I first joined Orbits IT, I had practically zero IT knowledge. Over the past nine months, I’ve learned a huge amount, and that learning continues every single day.
My role has also developed significantly since I started. Alongside my responsibilities as a First-Line Technician, I was given the opportunity to take on the Helpdesk Co-ordinator role, allowing me to support the team in a different way and take on additional responsibilities.
How would you describe the team culture?
We have a great team culture at Orbits IT. The helpdesk team works closely together every day, and everyone is always willing to support one another when needed. There’s a real sense of teamwork, and it’s reassuring to know that help is never far away when you’re dealing with a challenge.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
A typical day usually involves triaging incoming support tickets and helping to ensure work is distributed effectively across the team. As part of my Helpdesk Co-ordinator responsibilities, I also keep an eye on ticket quality and progress, making sure we’re delivering the high standard of service our clients expect while supporting the team throughout the day.
We heard from Elise’s manager, Daniel…
Already Elise is proving to be a key member of the team and is building a great relationship with our clients. She is always friendly and approachable and is driven to push any scenario through to a timely resolution It’s great to see how much Elise has developed over a very short period of time and I’m looking forward to seeing how she develops his newly acquired skills.
Now for the Fun Stuff!
Work hard, play hard — we’ve seen Elise in action on the supporting our clients, now let’s peek behind the screen and uncover some of the fun stuff!
If you weren’t working in IT, what would you be doing?
“I’d probably be a teacher. I enjoy helping people learn and develop, so it’s something I could definitely see myself doing.”
If IT support had a mascot, what would it look like?
“An octopus! Think about it: multiple arms mean it can handle lots of tickets at once, making it the perfect symbol for a busy helpdesk. It’s also friendly, memorable, and always ready to lend a helping hand… or eight.”
