Behind the Screens: Get to Know Mya the Marketing Assistant

Mya has been part of the Orbits IT team for just over five years now, starting out as an apprentice and growing into her current role as Marketing Assistant. She’s one of those people who always seems to have a dozen things on the go: data, design, content, you name it. We caught up with her to find out what keeps her motivated, what she’s proud of, and what a typical day looks like behind the scenes…

What do you enjoy most about working at Orbits IT?

“What I enjoy most is the variety; every day’s a bit different. One day I might be buried in data, the next I’m writing content or helping out with something completely random, which keeps things interesting. And honestly, my colleagues make it all the better. They’re always up for a laugh, and that kind of atmosphere makes even the busiest days feel easier.”

What does a typical work day look like to you?

“If you walked past my desk day to day, I can guarantee I always have some form of graph open. With so many channels to keep an eye on, staying on top of the data is a must. One screen’s usually over-filled with charts, but what’s on the other changes all the time; it could be content writing, social media planning, a bit of graphic design, website tweaks, you name it.”

How would you describe the team culture?

“Everyone’s incredibly friendly and supportive. I’m not directly involved with the helpdesk day to day, but it’s clear to see everyone works as a team. Even with our different roles, we all pitch in where we can and, over the years, we’ve become genuinely good mates.”

How has your role evolved since working at Orbits?

“I began as a Digital Marketing Apprentice in September 2020, which had me looking after most of the online marketing channels we had, including Google Analytics, our Website, Social Media, etc. As time progressed, I began to manage more channels, both online and offline, which led to looking at how automation and AI could help us. More recently, I’ve been involved in Sales, which has tied it all together.”

What’s something you’re proud of achieving within your time at Orbits?

“I started at Orbits as an apprentice, which eventually led to me reaching the finals of the Greater Birmingham Apprenticeship Awards in 2021. That’s still the achievement I’m most proud of. More recently though, I’d say the Orbits rebrand just over a year ago was a big highlight. There was a lot to juggle, but it was a great success in the end.”

Now for the Fun Stuff!

Work hard, play hard — we’ve seen Jakub in action, supporting our clients, now let’s peek behind the screen and uncover some of the fun stuff!

If IT support had a mascot, what would it look like?

“I’d imagine it would be a little pixel helper. Imagine a little desk-sized pixelated character that helps you with all of your tech issues; that’s what we try to be.”

Do you prefer light mode or dark mode?

“I’ve always been a dark mode girl. Whenever I get a new device, it’s the first setting I go and look for.”

If your job had a theme song, what would it be?

“Currently, it has to be “The Final Countdown”. With posting so much information about the countdown to Windows 10 End of Life, it sure does remind me of that particular tune, as it truly is the final countdown until the switch.”

If you weren’t working in Marketing, what would you be doing?

“I’d be working in AI. Over the last few years, it’s become a really interesting space, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of playing with it. If it were around before COVID-19, I would have probably picked that as a career path.”
