Introduction 

Hello all, my name is Anish, and I am 17 currently in sixth form and will be spending a week here at Orbits It doing work experience

I have had an interest in IT for many years from when I first gained an interest in secondary school and then decided to take the subject as a GCSE and got Level 2 distinction star. I then continued to pursue IT as a level 3 at Sixth form which I picked because I wanted to further my education in IT and still enjoy as I have a passion for technology. I believe that my time here at Orbits It will be very beneficial to me as I will be able to implement my own knowledge and I will be able to see the impact of IT on the real world and also will be able to gain an experience of working in a company.

My goal for Orbits It will be to gain as much knowledge as possible to further my education into ICT

Day 1 

On my first day here at OrbitsIT, I started by getting logged into my account and was then taken around a tour of the building where I got to see things such as the software used to erase the hard disks so that they are ready to be properly disposed of. After that I was given a task to research what a MiSTerPi is, how it works, what it can do and how I would have to build one and I created a full detailed report on it. After I completed my review, I was then allowed to shadow a member of the team who showed me how people are helped such as I was shown that anyone who is supported by OrbitsIT is able to write a ticket and it will be assigned to somebody working on the help desk and they will be able to help. They are able to do this by remotely taking over the user’s PC and can then go and fix the issue.

Day 2 

On my second day here I first started by taking 3 hard disks and starting the erasing process in order for them to be properly disposed. After that I went and sorted through boxes to see what things are there and to properly assort them to make it easier to find things and also to see what was there and what could be disposed of. After that i was given  MiSTerPI hardware and was tasked with building the system and then i tried to put the firmware on the SD card which i will have to continue and finish. After that I was with another member of the team who showed me how to build a device using Immy bot which is a tool to manage the computers managed by the company. To finish off the day i was able to shadow other members of the team who was helping people with any tickets.

Day 3 

Here at Orbits, I started the day by coming in and logging onto the PC and then I went and connected 3 SSDs to the PC with the software to wipe them. I then was struggling to get the software to work which was looked at by another member of the team. I went and then sorted the things from the previous day such as the mouses and other wires into their own plies. After this I then went back to trying to make the MiSTerPi work by doing all the scripts which needed to be done such as the update and Wi-Fi. After this I was able to see the MiSTerPi properly working and was able to play on it.

Day 4

I came in today and started by shadowing another member of the team which was showing me software the company used for calls and such as he showed me possible issues which can happen and then after this, he showed me how he fixes these issues. After this i went and shadowed a second line engineer which showed me new things such as network issues. After this i was in a meeting with the entire OrbitsIT origination then I went for an onside visit with another member of the team

Summary

At my time with OrbitsIt, i really enjoyed my time being able to meet and connect with such great people who helped me with any issues i was facing and they allowed me to shadow them and ask anything i was interested about. Overall, i gained a lot of new knowledge here and enjoyed my time here at the Midlands branch.
