Improving your IT skills
Since I started at Orbits as an admin assistant 4 months ago, I’ve been working on an IT course.
The European Computer Driving Licence or ECDL course is internationally recognised as one of the top courses that provides students with the necessary skills to keep up with the ever moving world of computers.
The course is for people who have little or no IT skills, so it’s great for people starting out in IT or admin.
I considered myself IT literate when I started the course, yet the modules taught me lots of other skills and techniques that I could use.
Some of the modules that you can study are;
- Security for IT users,
- Word Processing,
- Spreadsheets and lots more.
The online course provides you with a simple easy to use page with a list of modules to study and tests to take when you are ready to take them. There’s also no time limit on when you should complete the course. This makes it incredibly useful if you have a busy schedule.
I found the PowerPoint and Databases modules especially interesting. I had a lot of catching up to do as I was only familiar with older, out of date versions.
Both can be confusing, so the course introduces you to the important things you need to know and shows you how to complete specific every day tasks.
By being so free to study the modules, I was able to put into practice the things I was learning and then go back to take the test.
This course is perfect for anyone wanting to gain or update their basic IT skills. It’s not rocket science, it’s not even IT science, just the essentials for someone who needs new and updated skills for the future.
At the end of the course you’ll be sent a certificate of recognition by the ECDL team here in the UK.
For more information on this course, take a look at the ECDL website.
