Windows 7 Service Pack 1 released to the masses

If you check Windows Update on your Windows 7 machine, you should find that Windows 7 Service Pack 1  is available for install. It has been out there as a Beta for a fair few months, but has only just been released to the general user. SP1 has also been released for Windows Server 2008 R2 which is built on the Windows 7 kernel.

So what can we expect in this first Service Pack for Windows 7? Well if past Service Packs are anything to go by it will contain a multitude of security and compatibility fixes as well as some fancy new tech that probably won’t be of much benefit to the average user. These include:

RemoteFX – a new technology from Microsoft to enhance the experience when connecting to Hyper V virtual desktops. This is Microsoft’s attempt to catch up with the VMWare user experience.

Better support for HDMI audio which has plagued some users since the launch of Windows 7.

And most excitingly!!! Support for Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) a 256bit instruction set extension for processors. I told you it was exciting!

Currently Windows Update servers are taking a pounding and it’s downloading very slowly for me. Those who have managed to install it have reported a few issues with Windows Authenticity (If you are running any form of activator or bios mod on an illegitimate copy of Windows 7 you will almost definately have problems!) but so far no other problems have arrisen.

Orbits will be rolling out the Service Pack internally before suggesting clients upgrade their PCs and Servers.

Please post below and let us know your experience with the new Service Pack.
