Keep your work smartphone secure

Smartphone usage has increased significantly over the last couple of years. It’s an easy and convenient way of working on the go for example sending and receiving emails or arranging client meetings, it’s a perfect way to stay connected while out of the office.

With that being said your sensitive data will be stored on your smartphone. So how do you keep this safe?

Here I have set a check list you can follow to ensure your data is kept secure.

Password Protection – The first and most important step when getting a brand new device is to set a password in order to gain access to the device.

While the 4 digit passcode will be fine there are alternative methods of protecting your device the most popular method being fingerprint scanning combined with a 4 digit passcode.

Anti-Virus – Once you have your password setup the next step would be to select a trusted anti-virus program from the app or play store. Once this has been installed ensure this is configured to scan your mobile daily and update the software at all times to protect your device.

Phone LockSmartphone Updates – Just like a PC or laptop it’s important to update you device when a new update becomes available. Updates often improve a user’s performance on the device but updates can often patch a security flaw that may have been found in the operating system.

Connecting with care – Free WiFi is available in almost every pub, café, restaurant, train even supermarkets and like everyone else you may connect to the WiFi because its quicker or to save your mobile data. – Be cautious when connecting to WiFi hotspots and limit the type of business you carry out. Play with the settings on your device and limit who can access your phone via hotspot.

The Cloud – Take full advantage of the cloud tech. Cloud tech is a handy method of backing up the data stored on your phone. Apps such as Dropbox, One Drive and Google Drive allow you to setup what data on your phone you would like to backup.

If your device is then lost or stolen your data has been backed up and is accessible from anywhere. With this being said what if someone is able to access the data on my phone?

As cloud tech is accessible from everywhere you can securely manage and remotely wipe your phone in case the device is lost or stolen. This will have to be configured before you can use this feature unless you use our hosted exchange email platform.
