According to stats released by Statcounter, Windows 7 has overtaken the market share of Windows Vista. This only a year after its release.

The figures show that Windows 7 has achieved 20.09% total market share, while Vista has now sunk to 19.41% worldwide. This is still a long way from the 53.92% share that Windows XP holds. However with Windows 7 now a proven successor, and Microsoft officially dropping support of Windows XP SP2 we will see that gap close up.
