National Cyber Security head warns not enough organisations have prepared for a cyber attack
The head of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has warned not enough organisations have prepared for a cyber attack or tested their cyber defences.
Speaking at the Chatham House Cyber 2021 conference, Lindy Cameron warned cyberattacks which enable hackers to get inside computer networks and lock the owners out until they pay a ransom present “the most immediate danger” to UK businesses in cyber space.
Posing a threat to everyone from major companies to local councils, Russia and its neighbours are responsible for the most devastating ransomware attacks.
Ms Cameron said ransomware would remain attractive to cyber criminals for as long as organisations remain vulnerable and willing to pay. Improving cyber defences is therefore essential for disrupting the work of ransomware gangs.
So, what can organisations do to prepare for a cyber attack?
At Orbits, we enable clients to counter the risk of and prepare for a cyber attack with our bolt-on cybersecurity package:
It offers the following key benefits:
1. Protects against email threats
Emails are a massive source of cyber attacks but with Email Threat Protection, we can stop malware, ransomware and other complex threats from entering inboxes. Features like advanced link protection, attachment sandboxing and quarantine prevent networks from becoming a major vulnerability.
2. Protects against internet threats
Aside from safeguarding businesses from incoming threats, protecting against the risks associated with accessing potentially harmful or infected websites is hugely important too. Web Umbrella uses DNS software that threat checks every website a user wishes to access before granting or denying permission. This cuts off unwanted activity at the root. As well as blocking access on a site by site basis, entire categories of websites can be blocked, from gambling to adult content, social media to shopping.
3. Trains users to be cyber aware
People may be the biggest asset but when it comes to security, they can be the weakest link. Employee vulnerabilities are a big issue, which is why it’s important to focus on the human element of cybersecurity. With our Breach Prevention Platform we not only identify threats relating to specific employees but continually educate employees and manage employee vulnerabilities to track their progress.
