Meet Rachel, Orbits’ Admin & Finance Assistant

As an Admin and Finance Assistant, Rachel isn’t a typical member or the Orbits IT team. Her organisational and time management skills assist with the upkeep of accounts and various admin tasks. Despite not taking calls from clients regarding IT enquires, Rachel takes care of all calls related to billing and admin enquires and will assist in every way possible.

To get to know Rachel more he was asked some questions:

What does an average working day look like for you?

I always have daily tasks I will complete like daily banking, checking on payments, billing updates and more but there are lots of other tasks I complete which change daily. These include company events and needs within the offices like uniform. Recently one of these tasks has been preparing for the company Christmas Social which will bring all of the offices together for one event.

How long have you been working at Orbits IT and how has it changed over time?

I joined Orbits in January 2019 when the company was much smaller than it is today. Since then, it has expanded massively which has also allowed for my daily duties to evolve. Now I also look after the accounts for the Midlands office as well as the South Wales office.

A recent change that has occurred has been an office move in South Wales. We are still in the same building we have always been in, however going forward, we will all be in one large room which will make communication a lot easier for us.

How does your role differ from the rest of the team?

In one aspect my job is completely different to most of the business. My role is to look after the accounts and completely different admin tasks. On the other hand, however, I still to respond to customer enquiries, like the rest of the team but, the enquires I receive will mostly be something to do with accounts or something similar.

Do you work more individually in your role or more as a team?

I both work within the team and individually. As there are lots of different aspects to my role there is always a need for some collaboration with the rest of the team. For example, updates form billing come from the helpdesk staff and I could not carry out essential areas of my role without this information. However, past this a lot of the work I do within accounting is something I work on more as an individual.

Orbits Director, Jim Lewington, says this about Rachel…

Rachel is very much the unsung hero of Orbits IT. Responsible for finance and admin, Rachel works diligently in the background to ensure our suppliers get paid, our staff get paid, and we get paid! As well as this Rachel juggles all manner of office admin tasks from organising our Christmas Parties, providing uniforms and DBS checks for staff to ensuring our fleet of vehicles are ready to go. It is with some sadness that Rachel is leaving us in Feb 2022 and those big shoes will hopefully be filled by someone who is equally as dedicated and skilled in the role.
