Behind the Screens: Get to Know Charmaine Finance and HR Administrator
Say hello to Charmaine, our Finance and HR Administrator, who’s been part of Orbits IT for over three years. She started out in finance and admin, and over time has taken on the HR side too. Charmaine loves the variety her role brings, from sorting the numbers to making sure new starters feel welcome. Earlier this year she passed her Level 2 accountancy exam, which means even more responsibility on her plate. She’s one of those people who quietly keeps everything ticking along so the rest of us can do what we do best.
What do you enjoy most about working at Orbits IT?
“There are a variety of things I enjoy: I enjoy always being able to learn new things, able to help with any finance issues, any HR issues, always keeping things up to date and sorted as soon as possible.”
What’s something you’re proud of achieving during your time at Orbits?
“I was overjoyed when I passed my Level 2 accountancy exam earlier this year. It has led to me taking on more responsibilities and the HR side of things too. I now look at things like contracts, returns to work and new starters internally”
How has your role evolved since starting here?
“When I first started at Orbits back in August 2022, I was the Finance and Admin Assistant. Over time I have gladly taken on more responsibilities of the HR side of things, which has led to my new job title: Finance and HR Administrator.”
How would you describe the team culture?
“It’s like we’re all family, or really good friends. Everyone is so welcoming, supportive and helpful; even if it’s just to have a little chat or you need a bit of help, someone is always there, big or small!”
What does a typical workday look like to you?
“Day-to-day I deal with the finance side of things with a few HR tasks mixed in. I also have the opportunity to complete my training and revise for exams at the moment.”
Comments from Charmaine’s manager, Jim Lewington…
“Charmaine is our money and people person – Finance and HR – and plays a pivotal role in our success. Working with our clients and suppliers to ensure the money flows to the right places and working with our staff to ensure they have everything they need from day 1 to achieve their best. Whilst the service desk and our engineers are the face of Orbits IT, the back office team, including Charmaine, are the engine room, keeping everything running. Not only that, she has sorted out our Christmas Do this year so we are all eternally grateful! Thanks, Charmaine, for all you do.”
Now for the Fun Stuff!
Work hard, play hard — we’ve seen Charmaine in action, supporting our staff, now let’s peek behind the screen and uncover some of the fun stuff!
If you weren’t working at Orbits, what would you be doing?
“I would have liked to work in a Seal Sanctuary; I love animals and it’d be amazing if I was able to help.”
Do you prefer light mode or dark mode?
“I prefer dark mode, 100%. I feel like light mode is too bright.”
You’re stuck on a desert island with one device — what is it, and how long before it breaks?
“I would choose some sort of technology that has downloaded music, to just sit and chill for a couple of hours before it dies.”
If your job had a mascot, what would it be?
“I think a little ghost, trying to fix all your IT issues in in the background without causing disruption.”
