60 Second Business Networking Elevator Pitches

Orbits IT’s founder and director Jim Lewington has been a member of BNi Mercury (www.bnimercury.co.uk) in Halesowen, Bimingham, UK for almost 3 years. Meeting each week members have a 60 second slot to speak about them, their business and their ideal referrals. Some people will use the same speech every week – which works for some – but Jim prefers to use the opportunity to mix it up, try and get a few giggles whilst letting fellow members and visitors know more about Orbits IT and the IT Support services they offer.

A recipient of the ‘Best 60 Seconds’ award on many occasions, below are a few select examples of Jim’s 60 second elevator pitches.

Relationship advice

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT.

I believe business is about relationships. Like any successful relationship you need to nurture it. People often say “Jim I completely understand how you get in so many relationships, I mean look at you, but how do you keep the relationship going, keep it strong and fresh?”

Providing IT Support is very much like being in relationship with my wife. You need to have clear lines of communication, be attentive without being overbearing. Physical contact is essential but as the relationship develops the regularity of said physical contact may drop off as things settle but both of you know that if physical action is needed it will be provided. Money is always an issue in a relationship – one party wants to spend nothing, the other could spend constantly – find a middle ground. And finally trust is so important. Yes, Orbits have over 300 relationships on the go, it’s exhausting, but we make each client feel like they are the only one and they trust us implicitly.

Id like a relationship with Someone from Somewhere so if you know her please hook us up

I’m Jim, we are Orbits IT. Providers of first class IT Support and very ropey Relationship Advice.”

5 Star service

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT.
There are several many in this room that I admire, Graham for his willingness to share experience, knowledge and wisdom, Lucy for doing a job I couldn’t possibly do with such passion and dedication. Michael for steadfastly asking subs to use that monstrosity of a 60 seconds ever time, and Ashley Would for his commitment to building a company based on customer service – just like I have.
I admire Ash but I’m also envious – 314 unblemished 5 star Google reviews that quite rightly makes him the highest rated estate agent in the area. Our 64 unblemished 5 stars pales in comparison but I checked and it still makes us the highest rated IT Support company in South Wales and only one away from being the highest rated in Birmingham. I’ll take that after 16 years.
Id like to make Someone of Somewhere a client so they can be the ones to give us that next 5 star review in the area and take us top where we belong.
I’m Jim and we are Orbits IT, delivering a 5 star service everytime.”

What clients want?

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT.

What are Orbits IT? Some people would call us a Managed Service Provider, some would call us Digital Transformation Experts, others would call us Modern Workplace Managers. All of those people are idiots.
Orbits IT are your IT Support and security specialists. There to ensure your technology is working hard for you, quickly fix any problems that may arise and above all else give you peace of mind that everything is safe and secure.
I believe clients want 3 things –
  • Speed – issues resolved fast. No one wants to wait days for a problem to be solved. Our current average resolution time is under 2 hours.
  • Honesty – if I recommend something to a client they need to know it’s in their best interests, not just me making a quick buck.
  • A relationship – someone they can talk to openly, whenever they need, someone they can trust and someone who has the knowledge to help them.
Id like to deliver those 3 things to Someone – CEO of Somewhere. We have worked with several similar charities in Wales for over 15 years and we would like to engage with more local ones up here.
Thankyou.
I’m Jim and we are Orbits IT.”

Getting people up and active!

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT.

Stand up for me if you have checked your email this morning.
Stay standing if you have sent an email this morning.
Stay standing if having emails you send blocked would cause you problems.
And stay standing if you know that your email SPF, DKIM and Dmarc records are configured correctly?
If you don’t know then you may find that your emails do indeed get blocked starting next month. Microsoft is going to block unauthenticated emails automatically. SPF, DKIM and Dmarc are the email authentication records that you need to have set up – they tell other email systems that the email is legit and not dodgy.
If you are unsure then have a chat with me and I’ll let you know. If you are a client of ours then sleep easy, it’s all sorted!
I’m Jim and we are Orbits IT. Where stupid technical  acronyms make sense!”

Will you be remembered?

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT and Orbicomm.
Will you remember me in 15 years time?
Yesterday, someone did. They remembered me from my 4 networking days, we both set our companies up at the same time down in Wales we and did the networking circuit together.
Why did they think of me after 15 years? Cos their current IT provider are repeatedly letting them down.
Why did they go with their current provider and not think of me back when they appointed them? Because they were cheap and they knew we wouldn’t be.
They are right. We aren’t and they will find that out when we send our quote over. Speed, cost or quality. You can only choose 2, our clients choose speed and quality every time.
Id like to deliver speed and quality to Someone, Somewhere.
I’m Jim and we are Orbits IT.”

Almost a crime

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT.

It’s bang on 2 years since I first visited BNi Mercury. In that time I’ve made 60,000 pounds of additional revenue, I’ve done more CEU than is actually possible and I’m directly responsible for atleast 3 members leaving. But let’s see what you have all learnt about me and Orbits IT in 2 years.
What size organisation is our ideal client between?
What’s the sector that we have a particular focus on?
Where are our offices located?
What makes us unique?
So there you go, if you know any charities between 5 and 150 users, in South Wales, Bristol or up here in the Midlands that wants customer focused IT Support – give them my details.
I’m Jim and we are Orbits IT and I searched for what crimes have a 2 year sentencing guideline so I could make that classic joke and apparently you get 2 years for knowingly having intercourse with an imbecile. Shouldn’t someone let Mickey’s missus know!”

Blindly following a scam

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT.
Id like you all to take out your phones. Open up your browser – chrome or Safari. In the address bar please type www.securityaudit.co.uk – pop your email address in and under message type  “I’m just about to be breached!”
Do not blindly follow instructions even if you think you can trust the person giving the instructions. This is a new attack vectot we saw just this week and it’s very effective. A client almost lost 30,000 pounds to a fraudster just because they followed instructions from someone they thought they trusted. Fortunately our cyber security tools prevented it.
The miscreants are getting smarter, their techniques more cunning and if you aren’t protecting your business, your luck will run out. If you or someone you know is looking to increase their cyber security measures, get in touch. That’s one instruction you should blindly follow!
Id like to help protect Someone and her colleagues at Somewhere in Dudley.
I’m Jim and we are Orbits IT. “

Clients know best?

“Good morning Mercury, my name is Jim and I’m a director of Orbits IT.

Orbits are a provider of managed IT services to businesses with between 5 and 150 staff.
Hands up who thinks they are pretty secure when it comes to it and cybersecurity? Who thinks they are too smart to fall for an email phishing scam? Who thinks they couldn’t possibly be duped into paying a fraudster?
I met with a potential client this week – kindly referred to us by one of you guys. We spoke about all kinds of things but in particular cyber security. They spoke about how on the ball they were and that their processes wouldn’t allow for fraud to take place. They haven’t had a cyber incident in the 14 years they had been in charge. They asked me to give scenarios were the special category client data they hold could be breached and gave me reasons back why it couldn’t.
They told me how a family members friend quickly built their database that holds this data in the Microsoft cloud in 3 weeks. How it was really cost effective and they could access it from anywhere. They then showed me their Manila folder with ever single password for every single account held by every single user on every single business system in the organisation written down for all to see.
I told them bluntly they didn’t have a clue. They are now a client and we will be burning that folder!
You are never as good at Cybersecurity as you think you are but we can make you better. Speak to us.
I’m Jim and we are Orbits IT”
