The Problem
Before we spoke to Orbits IT, we had a support provision from Cardiff Council that met the basics of our technical requirements. With long term strategy in mind a more tailored and individualised approach was necessary due to CVCU not having an internal IT department. We needed someone to support us, explain things clearly and give us exactly what we needed, when we needed it the most.
We started looking for a proactive, reliable IT support provision to take over the support provided by the Local Authority support team while upgrading or replacing our ageing IT infrastructure. We were also looking for a company that could help us migrate our support services while allowing us to still run our business as usual. We still had to take savings, give out loans and do everything else without disruption as the migration happened so we needed confidence that this could be managed seamlessly.
Solutions
We decided to speak to other Credit Unions in the cooperative to ask for recommendations and frequently heard excellent feedback about Orbits IT- a local IT company. Our colleagues couldn’t say enough good things about the company’s IT services and support, so we decided to reach out for a chat. When we attended our meeting with Dean from Orbits IT, we soon realised that he was on the same page. He understood our needs as a not-for-profit – we were underfunded and understaffed. We also weren’t IT gurus so had no idea what the ideal IT solution would look like.
After this face-to-face meeting, we had every confidence that Orbits IT were the right service providers for us, especially as they provided the support we needed and were very local, making it easy to have face-to-face meetings if we needed them. After we engaged the services of Orbits IT, they soon designed the ideal solution for our needs and the project began in July 2023 with great success.
- Our project objectives included:
- Migrating support services away from the current provider.
- Providing and provisioning data connectivity and VoIP telephony solutions to multiple sites including a leased line service to the Cardiff City Centre office.
- Designing and building a cloud solution to host the new LOB application.
- Migrating company data from file server to SharePoint Online.
- Improving cybersecurity posture.
Orbits IT provided a Microsoft 365 Business Premium offering, using Windows Virtual Desktop (AZURE) for the cloud service functionality, alongside internet and VoIP services by Orbit’s sister company, Orbicomm.
